South India- Sketching 24 January- 6 February, 2009. Tutor Leonie Norton South India is a relaxed, verdant place, the pace is set by the gentle way you float along the Backwaters in a luxury houseboat.. The splendours of sunset over the Arabian Sea looking through the fishing nets of Cochin and the chance to ride elephants in the Cardamom Hills round out the background to this tour designed to give you time and the expertise of an experienced artist and tutor to develop your sketching skills. Leonie writes “Holiday Sketching is quick and spontaneous. It is an impression of the people and the place. It is not meant to be a realistic representation... Create a visual souvenir of your holiday through sketching and travel notes... Write a brief description of the place you are sketching, date and location and other interesting information. Diarising your holiday adds another dimension of enjoyment and interest. Sketching equipment can be kept to the bare minimum when travelling. It can be basic enough to fit into a handbag or small carry bag, ready to be produced the moment an opportunity presents itself. Surprise yourself with the standard of your sketches. Experiment with using various mediums and learn how to draw perfect perspective.” We will take advantage of our stay amongst the tea plantations and spice gardens of the Cardamom Hills to spend time with Leonie working in the style that she is most well known for- Botanical Illustration setting aside time to focus on sketching the local flora. After breakfast each day we will spend time focusing on a particular element- clouds, water, morning light, people and etc before we head out for the day, evenings there will be a chance to look at and discuss work, add those final touches. All skill levels are welcome, from those who have never attempted sketching, to those who already visually record their experiences. You will amaze and delight, yourself, your family and friends with a personal and unique record of your travels in this relaxed and peaceful part of the world. Future tours will follow a similar itinerary. |
